When I came to live in Italy, I soon realized that it was the plant my mother-in-law has on the corner of her stairs. It’s more a bush than a tree, at least if grown in a pot. The plant she has blooms with firey red flowers. The leaves are evergreen and never drop. The hat is knit from the bottom up. The Tubular cast on creates a neat edge for the ribbing; the Scovolino lace grows up from the ribbing. The lace resembles the seed capsules in the branches, which remain visible after the plant drops its flowers. The body of the hat is worked in reverse stockinette stitch with the option to knit on the WS of the work. The star-shaped crown adds the final touch to this elegant beanie style hat. **Finished measurements** S (M) L Brim circumference 38.5 (46.5) 54.5 cm / 15.5 (18.25) 21.5” Hat length 21 cm / 8.25” or desired length. To be worn with 1 – 7 cm /0.5 – 2.75” negative ease at the brim. **Yarn requirements** Das Mondschaf Phoenix (100% Bluefaced Leicester, 262 m /100 g) 1 skein or 122 (146) 170 m / 133 (160) 186 yds of sport weight yarn.
