The Sugar Plum Shawl is a delicate dance, with stitches that dip and curtsy throughout. The pattern uses only basic stitches, but they combine to create a work of art, for a gorgeous project that is accessible even to a newer crocheter. The pattern is designed specifically to highlight the beauty of a hand dyed gradient and to showcase gradual color changes. It features a 12-row repeat and the also includes instructions for ending on any row in the repeat so you can use up every scrap of yarn. **Pattern includes both written and charted instructions.** **Sample** Purple sample used [Wendy’s Wonders Yak Sock][1], 437yds/100g in Sugar Plum Yellow sample used gradient yarn (fingering weight; 50% merino/50% silk; 438yds/100g) 657yds/150g Orange to blue sample used gradient yarn (fingering weight; 75% merino/20% Nylon/5% Stellina; 760yds/198g) 510yds/133g **Gauge** 8 rows = 4”/10cm measured down the spine. Gauge is worked flat and measurements are taken after blocking. Do not stretch the fabric when checking gauge. Gauge may vary based on how you block. Gauge is not essential to this pattern as a shawl that is slightly larger or smaller will still fit nicely, and the shawl can also be easily adjusted in length and width. Differences in gauge will change the finished size and will also impact the yardage required. **Yarn, Yardage, and Colors** The pattern is specifically designed to highlight a gradient, and includes instructions for using up every scrap of yarn. It looks equally amazing in a self-striping with long stripes or a solid or tonal. It generally breaks up pooling in a variegated yarn, but the variegation tends to obscure some of the pattern details. A single 100g skein of fingering is enough to make a shawlette measuring ~41"/100cm across. 150g of fingering is enough for a full size shawl measuring 51.5”/131cm across. The shawl can easily be made larger with more yardage. The samples shown are fingering weight, but the pattern looks amazing in anything from a laceweight to a worsted. **Skills required** ch, dc, sc, tr, working repeats within repeats. This is accessible even to a newer crocheter, but requires focus. **Construction** The pattern is a top-down triangle worked seamlessly in one piece. **Copyright** This pattern and any associated images, schematics, and charts are copyright Rachy Newin Designs and may not be distributed in part or in whole without express written permission. Handmade objects created from this pattern are not subject to copyright and you can do as you please with your finished object. **Printing** Both a regular and printer friendly version are available! The regular version includes large photos on the first page and the last two pages, so print accordingly. For details on what the printer-friendly version includes, see [this page][2]. If you are working from the printer-friendly version and are having trouble with a pattern, I strongly recommend checking the regular version. The text will be easier to read and it might have more detailed instructions. **Screen Reader Accessibility** The main pattern pdf is designed to be screen reader accessible. The text is all in one column and headers are formatted according to the style sheet. The pattern is written out completely and the images have descriptive alt text. Please note that the pattern has nested repeats, which may make it more challenging to follow with a screen reader. *[Buy me a ko-fi][3] or connect with me on social!
