ringwood mittens

A long time ago, I knit the perfect pair of mittens. They were one of those pair that just fit the hand comfortably, were the right weight for almost any weather, and just, ultimately, made me happy any time that I got to wear them. Of course, I didn't write down the pattern, or even remember the name of the yarn I made them out of (I believe it was from a clearance sale), and by the time I realized what a great pair of mittens I had, it was long past the point where I could make myself (and my loved ones) another identical pair (or two, or five). And so I've been waiting, for years, for a yarn that reminded me enough of the original to be worth a reconstruction. When we recently got in our shipment of Sandnes Garn Tweed Recycled, I dared to hope. Using the original mitten and working backwards, I reconstructed the pattern pretty much perfectly. Four test mittens later, I think it's ready to share: I've added four extra sizes, for those with hands larger (and smaller!) than my own. Should those sizes not prove sufficient for hands in your family, or should you wish to experiment with different gauges, the pattern is quite easy to adapt: I would recommend staying within the DK to Aran range, however, or you'll have mittens that are far too thin, or far too bulky to do much good in winter! The listed mohair silk is optional: it adds nothing in terms of gauge, but will add a fair bit of warmth and wind resistance.
