Ballard collar

The Ballard collar is named after the cozy and hip neighborhood in northern Seattle. It is known for its Nordic roots, the sandy beaches at Golden Gardens Park, the Sunday farmers market, and an extensive craft brewery scene. The Ballard collar is knitted seamlessly top-down. It is knitted with an allover cable and rib pattern. The collar is started at the back of the neck. Then stitches are picked up for the shoulders and worked as the front of the collar. For the stitch patterns to show best, I recommend choosing unicolor or slightly tonal colorways. The Ballard collar is worked holding one strand of fingering weight yarn together with a strand of silk mohair but you can also knit in DK weight yarn. Yarn Note: The collar uses a strand of fingering weight yarn held together with a strand of lace weight yarn, but they can be substituted for a single strand of DK weight yarn. If you wish to work a DK weight version, omit all the instructions where it says “hold the yarns together” and follow only the yarn amount requirements for the fingering weight yarn. 375 m / 410 yards of fingering weight yarn and 375 m / 410 yards of lace weight yarn (mohair).
