Columbine

Columbine is worked top down. First you work back and forth on the needle until all increases for the V-shaped neckline have been made, then the work is joined, and the rest of the body is worked in rounds. First knit the upper back, with increases at each side for shoulders. When full shoulder width has been achieved, rest of back is worked straight down then with increases each side for armholes, until full length of armhole. Stitches are picked up along the RS of the shoulders, and each front is worked with increases each side for V-neckline, to same length as on the back. Then the back and the fronts are joined, and the rest of the body is worked in the round. Finally, stitches are picked up around the armholes and the sleeves are worked top down, with Japanese short rows for shaping the top of the sleeve. If Columbine were to stroll around Tivoli Gardens today, looking at the flowers, peacocks, and lights with her beloved, this blouse might be what she would be wearing.
