Three Seasons in Scotland

**Description** A simple stranded colourwork hot water bottle cosy, knit in the round using Shetland yarn and Fair Isle motifs. A quick knit and an ideal gift, it could be rustled up using yarn from your stash in no time. It's also a fun project for playing with colour in Fair Isle designs, and the pattern includes some notes on designing your own colourway. Why three seasons? Well, in Scotland, I use a hot water bottle to keep my feet warm in bed for about nine months of the year. So I designed a hot water bottle cosy - because something you see every day should be pretty, even if you only put your feet on it! **Yarn** You can use any Shetland-style 2-ply (e.g. Jamieson’s of Shetland, Jamieson & Smith, Alice Starmore Hebridean 2-ply) or a pure wool, woollen-spun 4-ply, such as those Blacker Yarns make from different British sheep breeds. This is a good project for using up odds and ends of yarn – it takes less than 2 balls of MC and 15 yards or less of all the other colours. The sample was knit in a mix of Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift and Jamieson & Smith 2-ply Jumper Weight and Shetland Supreme Jumper Weight, colours as follows (amounts used in brackets): MC: Spindrift Madder (29g/132.3yds) MC2: Spindrift Sunrise (2g/10.4yds) CC1: Spindrift Yellow Ochre (3g/11.5ygs) CC2: J&S 2-ply 118 (1g/6.3yds) CC3: J&S Shetland Supreme White (4g/15yds) CC4: J&S 2-ply 202 (3g/12.5yds)
