Crazy Patchwork Tutorial

These blankets look a bit like the [Babette blanket][1], but back in Ye Olden Days when we had crochet in primary school, we used to patch together squares in different sizes (and, bless our innocence, different yarn types and weights) to make very ugly patchwork blankets that were received graciously by our kindly parents (and promptly hidden from view.) This is my grown-up version of these crazy patchwork blankets. If you want a pattern with a colour chart, yarn recommendations and a very clear design structure, I *highly* recommend the wonderful **Babette** pattern, especially if this is your first project of this kind. The Babette pattern practically guarantees a beautiful blanket - just check the project pages and you'll see what I mean! However, If you are more of a make-it-up-as-you-go-along, fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants type of crocheter, this is a tutorial or guideline to create a freeform blanket from your odds and ends. You can just crochet it in strips with the squares you have on hand, and add to it as your store of leftovers grows.
