Shilling

Named for a scene in the film *The King’s Speech* where King George VI finally pays his bet of one shilling to speech therapist Lionel Logue, this hat has an old-fashioned air. Its alternating garter/stockinette stitch squares and purl-sandwiched cables look like knitted plaid. Shilling has plenty of cables and pattern switches to keep an advanced knitter occupied, and yet is easy enough for beginners to catch on. Shilling is knit on slightly smaller needles than called for, which makes this hat both snug and warm. Please note that the pattern runs both large and long! This pattern is unisex and available for knitting flat and in the round. Instructions are given for child small (child medium, child large/adult small, adult medium, adult large). **NOTE:** This pattern was previously available on Simple Savvy, however I have updated the pattern source and added a few extra notes to the new pattern on Earth Morning.
