Of the many beautiful rooms you might find in a Renaissance palace, there was sometimes one devoted entirely to wonder. The Studiolo was a place for meditation, study, and dreaming: so much more than what we’d think of as a home office or library nowadays. Think of a cabinet of curiosity, expanded to fill an entire room. At that time, books were fabulously expensive and precious, so it makes sense that they held their place in the Studiolo among other treasures: paintings and statues, fascinating specimens, and valuable artefacts. It was a “room of one’s own” where you could disappear for a golden hour or two to forget the outside world and find your inspiration. The Studiolo Socks are inspired by the intricate decorations and ornate carvings found in Italian “wonder rooms”. A fanciful lace detail at the cuff is a captivating beginning, which then relaxes into peaceful plain knitting down the leg and foot, so you can let your mind wander at will. The pattern includes three sizes, with a ribbed heel flap and wedge toe, and is simple to customise if you’d rather swap in your own favourite finishes.
