Once a Hobbit named Sméagol, Gollum’s mind and body were poisoned by the One Ring after he stole it from his cousin, Déagol. Driven mad by its power, he hid in a cave under the Misty Mountains with his “Precious,” as the Ring’s fourth captive. His life extended hundreds of years by the Ring, he survived off raw blind fish and bats, losing his taste for the food Hobbits so love to enjoy. Despite his maliciousness brought on by his constant desire to be reunited with the One Ring, readers and viewers caught occasional glimpses of helpful Sméagol aiding Sam and Frodo on their quest. Inspired by Sam and Frodo’s guide through the marshlands surrounding Mordor, this knitted Gollum is the perfect companion to keep guard over anything you find precious! This little toy is knit in the round using the Magic Loop method with simple stockinette to create a sinister and tormented look. All the pieces are knit in the round for minimal finishing except for his loincloth, which is worked flat. It’s up to you if you end up with a plotting Gollum or a helpful Sméagol . . .
