Kigi Pullover

A seamless top-down yoke sweater with lace, bobbles and buttoned front inspired by the flow of natural wood ash on pottery and details of leaves, branches and flowers in trees **This pattern has been tech edited and test knitted. In this case, refer to the total number of skeins or yardage required. Yardage is an estimate. If you knit your garment longer than the measurements indicated in the schematic, you will need more yarn. **NEEDLES** One 2.75 mm / US 2 circular needle, 60 cm / 24” or longer One 3.25 mm / US 3 circular needle, 60 cm / 24” or longer One 3.25 mm / US3 dpn for joining button bands One (set) 3.25 mm / US 3 preferred needles for working sleeves in the round One crochet hook of approximately 3.25 mm / D-3 for bobbles and optional crochet circles Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge. **GAUGE (after blocking)** 23.5 sts and 33 rows = 10 cm / 4” in Stockinette st with 3.25 mm / US 3 needle. **NOTIONS** Stitch marker, cable needles, stitch holder or waste yarn, tapestry needle for weaving in ends. 3 buttons. The sample uses buttons that are approximately 18 mm (11/16”) in diameter. Choose buttons that go through your buttonholes rather snugly. Optional: 3 plain buttons of similar size or slightly smaller than buttons of your choice (see p.12). Choose them in a colour that matches yarn colour C1. **NOTES** Kigi is a seamless top-down pullover that is first knitted flat from the neck. The lace pattern, with integrated buttonholes, is worked from charts. The yoke is joined for working in the round after the button bands are completed. The pullover is then worked in the round to the hem and cuffs in colourways that are blended from the lightest to the darkest. Tips are given on colourway distribution and colour blending to create smoother transitions. Instruction videos are included to demonstrate how to sew buttons securely onto the garment with the use of crochet circles. You may use plain buttons instead of crochet circles. Based on an image of a plate that I made, Michelle hand-dyed a set of colourways that reflect nuances of the blue milky ash glaze and speckles in the rustic clay. For the first time, I am producing porcelain buttons to go with my knit design. It has been a labour of love from both Michelle and me to produce kits that consist of Kokon yarn set for the pullover, a set of 3 porcelain buttons handmade by me and sewn on watercolour cards with original artwork, and a tote bag with a printed illustration of a yamagara bird drawn by my daughter. We are sincerely grateful to everyone who has pre-ordered the kits.
