SHaGS

**SHaGS (Simultaneous Heel Flap and Gusset Socks)** give you the fit of a heel flap and gusset without having to pick up any stitches, eliminating that annoying hole that often seems to appear at the top of the gusset. This construction method works great for self-striping yarns, because you work most of the heel in the round. What's more, this heel construction uses the same instructions whether worked toe up or cuff down, so you can use the pattern for a complete pair of stockinette socks or plug the heel into your favorite sock pattern. Regardless of the direction you knit, you'll end up with extra reinforcement behind and under your heel. One 100 g skein of fingering weight sock yarn will be enough for a pair of socks to fit most feet. If your feet are very long and/or wide, you may need part of a second skein.
