The Freedom Collection: Hat

**The Freedom Collection - Hat** The Freedom Collection came to fruition purely as a way of using up all those scrappy bits of yarn that were abandoned in the bottom of my project bag, freeing them from the shadows and turning them into something beautiful. This pattern will instruct you on how to knit a simple but striking colourwork hat using all those leftover bits of DK yarn – and as it’s knit with yarn you already have stashed away, it’s essentially a free project! The Freedom Collection is currently made up of three patterns: A cowl, hat and wrist warmers. I will strive to make most of the patterns within this collection free of charge, and those that do have a price will be on a chose what you pay pricing model with discount codes available to assist with financial accessibility. **Construction** Knit bottom up in the round using a two-stranded colourwork knitting technique, with a ribbed brim and a simple k2tog decreased crown. **Sizes** Newborn, Baby, Toddler, Child, Adult S, Adult M, Adult L **Yarn** DK in multiple colours. MC – Children sizes – approx. 25g. Adult sizes – approx. 30g CC – Children sizes – 3g per colour block stripe – approx. 27g Adult sizes – 4g per colour block stripe – approx. 48g (NB - approx. yarn weights given for largest child/adult sizes) Samples made in Toft DK shale for the MC and a selection of Toft DK yarns for the CCs. **Yardage** Child sample total yardage – 93m/102yds. Weight – 42g. Adult M sample total yardage – 121m/132yds. Weight – 55g. If you fancy knitting this hat longer than given measurements, please allow for this in your yarn requirements. **Needles** 3.5mm and 4.mm/ size 4 and size 6 (40cm for newborn to child sizes, 60cm for adult sizes) circular needles, or needles to obtain gauge. Use magic loop or DPNs for crown if preferred. **Gauge** 23 sts x 25 rounds = 10x10cm / 4x4 inches in charted stockinette stitch in the round, blocked. **Measurements** Approx. 36, 40, 44, 48 (51, 56, 58) cm 14, 16, 17.5, 19 (20, 21.5, 23)” **Notions** Tapestry needle, 1 stitch marker, scissors, pompom (optional), digital weighing scales. **Skills Used** Cast on, ribbing, stranded colourwork. The patterns of the Freedom Collection have not been though a test knitting process other than me making the samples, I don’t have the funds for a tech editor right now, and giving full details of yarn weights and yardages in a scrappy project is really difficult! Plus, I wanted people to see my pattern writing style. As I’m new to this I can totally understand people not wanting to spend their hard earned money on my patterns without knowing anything about my writing style, so hopefully these freebies will give you all a little insight. Also, I wanted to make some simple colourwork patterns that were accessible to everyone.
