golden larch hat

This hat is inspired by the golden larches of the Pacific Northwest. The pattern has a lot of twists and uses a lot of yarn, but works up into a lovely all-over pattern that meets at a 9-pointed star on the crown. The hat has a folded ribbed brim and is knit in dk yarn on 3.75 mm needles. The hat is worked from the bottom up in the round, and has both written and charted instructions, as well as two options for when to decrease, depending on how tall you'd like your hat to be. Yarn: ~240 yards dk weight, pictured here in Sugarbush Crisp Maple (now discontinued), 2.5 skeins used Needles: US size 5 (3.75 mm) or size required to obtain gauge: 32” circular needles for magic loop, or 16” circular needles & DPNs for small circumference crown decreases. Gauge: 1 pattern repeat = 2” wide 26 st x 32 rows in 4”x4” in stockinette Measurements: Hat measures 18.7” (47.5 cm) in circumference at brim, 8” (20.5 cm) tall with brim folded Hat here is modeled on a 22” (56 cm) head, but will fit heads 21” to 24.5” (53 to 62 cm) Written for an adult head with 9 repeats; easy to modify by decreasing number of repeats
