Baby Breath Blanket

Are you looking for a quick elegant baby shower gift? The idea of quick baby blanket was swarming in my head for a very long time. One day, I needed to make a gift for someone who’s having their baby in less than two months. Of course, I can make baby clothing, but babies grow fast. Blankets live longer and they’re used more often throughout the year. I didn’t have to worry about size or season. Also, baby blankets can be used for more than one child. They’re excellent stash busters and bold leftover eaters. Frankly, it’s worth the effort! I wanted a simple easy quick stitch. Everyone knows Granny Stitch (3 double crochet clusters) is the fastest stitch in the history of crochet. It’s basic, elegant and, for non-crocheter, looks sophisticated. On the other hand, I was worried I’d get bored if I made it all in Granny Stitch. I experimented with different variations of Granny Stitches I found online. Alas, none of which satisfied my inner adventurous crocheter. I wanted more! I wanted to mold the Granny Stitch to represent a special stitch for babies. Suddenly, the Aha moment hit and the design for this pattern was born. In addition, you’ll notice that the construction of the Granny Stitch Section is different from the original technique and the modified techniques mentioned in books and online. I developed this method to prevent the skewing of the blanket and to accommodate the stitches in the next two sections. This square blanket starts at the center, works in the round and out towards the border. It has three sections and one round of simple scallop edging. Totally 41 rounds. The instructions are written for a newborn baby size with notes at the end of the pattern explaining how to customize your blanket.
