Watching the colors move and change was mesmerizing, and I finished the shawl long before I was ready to, because I just could not set it down! You can absolutely play with different color options, and I share some ideas in the pattern, but don't be afraid to make it your own! Knit it in 1 color or 6! Use up some stash, colorblock or stripe! It is knit flat, sideways, with increasing along one edge to create an asymmetrical triangle. **SIZES** One size that is easily adjusted to be the best size for you! (Please note that the size you choose to knit will alter the amount of yarn needed.) **FINISHED MEASURMENTS** Wingspan: 89”/226 cm Center Depth: 30”/76 cm **YARN REQUIREMENTS** *These are just approximations. Total yarn usage will depend on the yarn you use (fiber content, ply, etc.), your personal gauge, and any modifications you may make.* Worsted Weight in up to 6 colors Total: 360 g/900 yds/823 m Per Color (if using 6): 60 g/150 yds/137 m **SUGGESTED YARN** *For this shawl I combined 2 three-skein fade sets of yarn that shift from color to color in each and every skein. You can find a photo of my yarn choice included here and in the pattern! I note in the pattern some other ideas for using more or less colors. This worsted weight yarn creates an incredibly squishy and generously sized shawl to wrap up in!* Spincycle Yarns - Dream State 100% American Wool (150 yds/137 m) A - 1 skein Stay Out Of The Forest B - 1 skein Mississippi Marsala C - 1 skein Castaway D - 1 skein Deep Bump E - 1 skein The Family Jewels F - 1 skein Melancholia **SUGGESTED NEEDLES** US 5/3.75 mm - 32”/80 cm circular needle Due to the expansive and squishy nature of Fishermen's Rib, it is necessary to knit it on smaller needles then you may typically choose for this weight of yarn. *(Use the needle size you need to achieve gauge.)* **NOTIONS** 1 clippable stitch marker (optional), tapestry needle, row counter (recommended) **GAUGE** 17 sts & 28 rows = 4”/10 cm (post-blocking) *Measured over Half Fisherman’s rib stitch pattern knit flat.* **TECHNIQUES TO INDULGE IN** Long tail cast on I-cord edging Slipping stitches Knitting [Half-Fishermen's Rib][2] [Increasing in Fishermen's Rib][3] [Changing colors][4] [I-cord bind off][5] **YARN SUBSTITUTION IDEAS** [Click here to be directed to a pdf with some yarn substitution ideas! These yarns have not all been tested, so we can not guarantee their outcome, but we do hope they provide a jumping off point for inspiration!][6] [1]: http://eepurl.com/diPxsr [2]: https://youtu.be/pf0h04GhVxg [3]: https://youtu.be/HmxWisfsjMY [4]: https://youtu.be/nWvb5iqBzwE [5]: https://youtu.be/f1EIPDykzLQ [6]: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fUZHyP57Amio3KtsjzpzD6kEChBgtP1j/view?usp=sharing
