These essential garter soakers are really fun and fast to knit, and what an irresistible result! These are sure to become your new go-to baby gift. ~~ **PATTERN NOTES:** These pants are worked seamlessly from the waist down. A few short rows (no prior knowledge required! You won't even know you're working short rows) are worked in the seat area for a great fit. The pants are first worked in the round, featuring faux "seams" at the sides, then flat, and seamed using a three-needle bind off (or grafting). Stitches are picked up along the leg openings to work a ribbed edging - thanks to slipped stitch edges, picking up stitches is a breeze. An I-Cord tie ensures that the pants stay in place comfortably. These pants are also appropriate for bulky or cloth diapers (modification suggestion is included). **SKILLS REQUIRED:** Casting on, knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing, knitting in the round, three needle bind off, picking up stitches, binding off. **SIZES:** NB (3mo, 6mo, 12mo // 18mo-2yo, 3yo) To fit waist: 16 (18, 19, 20 // 21, 21.25) inches or 40.5 (45.5, 48.5, 51 // 53.5, 54) cm. Garment waist (under ribbing): 16 (17.5, 19, 20.25 // 20.25, 21.75) inches or 40.5 (44.5, 48.5, 51.5 // 51.5, 55) cm. In general it’s best to go by the child’s actual waist measurements instead of the age label when selecting the appropriate size. You can also choose a size according to the desired thigh circumference or rise, and according to how much ease you’d like the garment to have. (The garment is very stretchy so I don’t recommend “sizing up”.) Please also keep in mind that the garment is designed assuming that the child is wearing a diaper. (cloth-diaper modifications are suggested in the pattern) If the child doesn’t wear a diaper I recommend sizing down. **YARN REQUIREMENTS:** Approximately 150 (175, 200, 225 // 250, 275) yards or 137 (160, 183, 206 // 229, 251) meters of sport to dk weight (5 to 8 ply) yarn Size Newborn sample above is knit in Ulysse by De Rerum Natura in colorway “Poivre” **GAUGE:** 22 sts x 48 rounds (i.e. 24 ridges) = 4 inches or 10 cm in garter stitch in the round. Please adjust your needle size if needed to achieve gauge. **NEEDLES:** - US 4 or 3.5 mm diameter circular needle (or size needed to match garter stitch gauge) in length 16” or 40 cm - 1 set of matching dpns for leg cuffs - US 2 1/2 or 3 mm diameter dpns for I-cord **NOTIONS:** - 2 stitch markers (I recommend using a different colored marker for the BOR marker.) - a tapestry needle - 3 stitch holders or pieces of scrap yarn
