The tops can be worn long, over the fingers, or folded back. Thwarter is a Scots word derived from athwart, meaning something that’s criss-crossed, or hatched.* **Yarn** Kate Davies Designs Schiehallion (100% wool: 70% Corriedale, 30% Cheviot; 110m/120yds per 50g skein) in the following shades: A Rhubarb - 2 x 50g B Crowdie - 1 x 50g **Needles and notions** Below gauge-size needles of your preferred type for working small circumferences Gauge-size needles of your preferred type for working small circumferences Waste yarn Stitch marker Tapestry needle **Gauge** 28 sts and 36 rounds to 10cm / 4in over stranded colourwork using gauge-size needle (blocked) Use 3mm needle as a starting point for swatching. A thumb gusset is inserted, and, after the thumb chart is completed and stitches set aside, the gauntlet top is finished with rib. A few rib rounds then complete the top of the thumb.
