**pattern available here:** https://tinnacrochet.com/collections/all **The Queen CAL 202** I sat down at the end of last year and decided I just wanted to go back to the basics. Just some simple sequences, working a core shape in mosaic crochet. Something continuous that would lead me along while working. I went with the classic harlequin pattern and had great fun playing with these diamonds. My Queen is also what I like to call an **interactive pattern**. The basic design is a diamond grid that is beautiful and classy on its own, the *Simple Queen*. Then you have a variation where there are some pattern fillings preset in the diamond grid, the *Traditional Queen*. And finally, there is the *Adventurous Queen*, where you can design your own version of the Queen, by arranging various different patterns that are included here, inside the diamond grid. For that version I include a diamond grid that is blank inside all diamonds and you can then draw your own pattern fillings onto your interactive basic grid! **Yarn & hook:** You can use any yarn you like for this pattern and a hook that suits your yarn. See the yarn stats table on page 6 for yarn amounts needed for this project in various types of yarn. (there is also a photo here on this page of the yarn stats table). I recommend using *Stylecraft Special DK* and there are kits available in this yarn in 3 different colorways for the Queen. **Stylecraft Special DK** Gauge: 18 st & 18 rows = 10 cm/4 inches. Use a 4 mm hook for the body of the blanket and a 3.5 mm hook for the border. **Large Queen in SSDK – yarn stats** These yarn stats apply to both the large horizontal and vertical Queen. **12 skeins of the main color** for the body of the blanket, you can choose to use 12 different colors here! **6 skeins of the pattern color** for the body of the blanket, you can choose to use 6 different colors here too. **4 skeins for the border**. (I suggest using the pattern color for the border). This is a generous estimate, so even if you are a “loose hooker” this will be more than enough for the standard 4 rounds simple border. With an average or tight tension, 4 skeins will also be enough for the extended 5 rounds simple border. Note that the kits only include the standard 4 skeins for the border. If you choose the striped border, you will also need the standard 4 skeins of the pattern color for that and can then use the leftovers of the 12 skeins of main color(s) to work the stripes. **Small Queen in SSDK – yarn stats** **6 skeins of the main color** for the body of the blanket, you can choose to use 6 different colors here! **4 skeins of the pattern color** for the body of the blanket, you can choose to use 4 different colors here too. **2 skeins for the border**. For detailed instructions on which colors come in the SSDK kits and how they were arranged in each blanket, row by row, please download the pdf file titled:Queen CAL SSDK kits. **Sizes** The pattern comes in two predetermined sizes when working it horizontally (widthwise) with DK weight yarn, like for example Stylecraft Special DK: Small: approximately 95 cm wide and 125 cm long, including the border. (38” x 50”) Large: approximately 150 cm wide and 2 m long, including the border. (60” x 80”) And one predetermined size when working it vertically (lengthwise) with DK yarn: Large: approximately 150 cm wide and 2 m long, including the border. (60” x 80”) You can also use these same predetermined sizes but work your blanket with either finer or thicker yarn and that way you can get smaller or larger versions of these same size guides. **Decide your own size!** Furthermore, this is a continuous pattern, that is worked flat in repeats, so you can decide yourself on both the width and the length of your blanket. **Abbreviations (US terms):** ST = stitch/stitches SS = slip stitch CH = chain stitch SC = single crochet (= DC in UK terms) DC = double crochet (= TR in UK terms) **General Instructions** The blanket is crocheted flat in rows, work one round in color A (main color) and then one round in color B (pattern color), alternating with each row. Each row is worked with only one color at a time. You will need at least two colors and I recommend using contrasting colors. This pattern consists of continuous mosaic pattern, which can be worked for many sizes of blankets, and comes with written instructions for the first 5 rounds/rows and then the rest in a **user friendly chart**. If **lefthanded**, you can either start with the written pattern and then go on to the chart, reading it from right to left.
