Cirrus Socks

The Cirrus Socks are the 4th secret pattern to be revealed in The Handmade Sock Society 3: [get the collection here!][1] You see them when the weather is fair and dry: Cirrus clouds, stretched across pale, endless blue by the invisible fingers of the wind. Their Latin name is the word for a lock or curl of hair, and their shapes are intimately familiar to anyone who has ever picked up a spindle or put their hand to a spinning wheel. The delicate wisps of these icy clouds range across the sky at tremendous heights of 20,000 feet or more. Cirrus clouds may be cold and impossibly distant, but they are kindly. Any precipitation they produce stays frozen in the sky, adding whirls and curlicues to each cloud. They hold messages of things to come and a promise of change. A few streaks of Cirrus overhead means that you can expect another day of sunshine, but if they begin to gather and thicken, prepare to meet rain by tomorrow. The Cirrus Socks echo the gentle shapes of these distinctive clouds, and are a reassuring project to keep you company in any weather. They begin with a 2x2 rib cuff and continue into a simple but lovely texture and eyelet pattern on the leg, with a relaxing plain stockinette foot. The pattern includes three sizes and the socks are finished with a ribbed heel flap and gusset and a wedge toe, but it’s simple to swap in your favourite heel and toe methods for a custom fit.
