**Making Plans** is a classic blanket knitting pattern that is easy to knit for a confident knitter. The center of the design features a simple repeating 4-row stitch pattern that creates a balanced, symmetrical texture. Knit in one piece, the blanket incorporates an attractive seed stitch border for a clean, finished look. A popular choice for knitting heirloom-quality baby blankets or timeless throws. This pattern looks best worked in a smooth, solid-color worsted or Aran #4 weight yarn to highlight the stitch texture. *Each purl stitch in the center of the Making Plans blanket represents the numerous little tasks that must be completed when **making plans**…especially big plans. Every big step in life requires the accomplishment of many small details in order to achieve the bigger goal: starting a new business, graduating from school, welcoming a child to the family, moving to a new home, getting a first apartment, starting college, celebrating a wedding…and so much more. I met Trish in the fall of 2018 when she was **making plans** to open a new Kansas City yarn shop - [Yarn Social][1].  This blanket design is inspired by her cheerful attitude and her beautiful shop!* > Buy 3 or more of [my knitting patterns][2] at the same time and receive 15% off your order. Any of the sizes may be made longer by adding pattern repeats. Each pattern repeat adds about .67” to the length of the blanket. Pattern includes estimates for additional yardage needed to make each size longer. **WORSTED OR ARAN #4 WEIGHT YARN:** Baby: 580 - 600 yards Small: 620 - 650 yards Medium: 870 - 900 yards Large: 1100 - 1150 yards XL: 1500 - 1600 yards XXL: 2200 - 2300 yards Be sure to buy additional yarn if you plan to add length to your project. *Solid color yarn recommended for best appearance of stitch pattern.* The yellow blanket shown in the photos was made with Blue Sky Fibers ‘Sweater’ worsted weight yarn in the ‘Firefly’ colorway. This lovely yarn is a blend of superwash wool and organic cotton. The pattern may also be used with slightly lighter or heavier weight yarns. Select the needle size that gives the best appearance for your yarn. Finished size and amount of yarn needed may vary depending on yarn choice and gauge….so buy extra yarn just in case! If you prefer Super Bulky weight yarn…please see my [Third Street Blanket knitting pattern][3]. **GAUGE:** Stockinette stitch with US size 8 needles: approximately 16 stitches & 23 rows = 4” Exact gauge is not essential. I used US size 8 knitting needles…but choose the needle size that gives the best appearance with your yarn and your knitting tension. Significantly different gauge may require more yarn. **NEEDLES:** Blankets knit flat, in one piece, back and forth on circular knitting needles in order to accommodate the large number of stitches. **SKILL LEVEL:** Easy for a confident knitter You will need to know how to cast on stitches, knit and purl confidently, read a row by row knitting pattern, bind off stitches and weave in ends. Blocking of finished knitting is highly recommended. This pattern uses standard U.S. knitting terms. Written pattern with row by row instructions.
