***This crochet pattern is available for FREE on my website, (visit pattern website link above), or you can download it here on Ravelry as a printable, ad-free PDF.*** [Matching scarf and cowl patterns have been added][1]! FRENCH language translation has been added to the download. **Difficulty:** Easy **Materials Needed:** 5.5mm hook, or hook needed to obtain gauge 150-200 yards Caron One Pound, or other thicker #4 worsted weight yarn Yarn needle Scissors 6โ€X6โ€ piece of faux fur for pom-pom - optional **Stitches Used:** ch = chain sl st = slip stitch sc = single crochet hdc = half double crochet dc = double crochet FPsc = front post single crochet BPsc = back post single crochet **Additional Terms:** Working in the 3rdย Loop of hdc โ€“ Instructions: Look at the top of the stitch, and locate the sideways โ€œVโ€, bend the stitch to look at the back*, and you should see another โ€œVโ€. Youโ€™ll be working into the back loop of that โ€œVโ€, this is called the 3rd loop.ย  **Gauge:** 13 hdc sts in 4โ€; hdc stitches should be 1/2โ€ tall. Circle should measure 3 1/2โ€ across after round 4, 4 1/4โ€ after round 5, and 5โ€ across after round 6.ย  **Measurements:** Size Large/X-Large Adult hat: 8 1/2โ€ tall by 10 1/2โ€ wide Size Medium Adult hat: 8โ€ tall by 10โ€ wideย  Size Small Adult: 8โ€ tall by 9 ยฝโ€ wideย  6-10 yrs Childโ€™s hat 7 3/4โ€ tall by 9โ€ wideย  Optional Finishing details: Earflaps/Ties, or faux fur pom-pomย  **Additional Notes:** -First st of round should be made in the same st as join. -You will need to use a thicker worsted weight yarn to achieve the size measurements listed. Making a gauge swatch before you start should help. -This hat is primarily crocheted using the Seed Stitch. Every round you make, except for the ribbing, will alternate dc, and sc sts. The non-increase rounds will stack dc on top of sc and vice versa, but the increase rounds will not. Keep alternating anyway. -Size can be adjusted down slightly by using a 5mm (H) hook if these sizes are not quite the right fit.
