Sipila is knit from the top down in the round. There are options for either long or short sleeves included in the pattern; make sure you check the suggested yardage for the version you prefer, as the long sleeve version will require more yardage. The body length is easily customizable, but changing it will also affect the yardage, so please keep that in mind. If you are using hand painted or speckled yarn, it is highly recommended to alternate skeins for the main color (C1) to avoid noticeable color blocks and/or pooling. The contrast color (C2) doesn't need to be alternated. The gauge for this design is intentionally loose to create a drapey, lightweight fabric.* **MATERIALS** Yarn 2 colors of fingering weight yarn, superwash singles are suggested. Main Needles: US 4 *[3.5 mm]* for the body and sleeves Ribbing Needles: US 2 *[2.75 mm]* (or 2 sizes smaller than the needles used to achieve main needle gauge) for collar, hem and cuffs **Other Notions:** Stitch markers, stitch holders (or scrap yarn), tapestry needle **Gauge:** 22 sts and 30 rounds over 4” *[10 cm]* after blocking in both colorwork and stockinette. Swatch both colorwork and stockinette as you may need to change needle sizes to maintain an even gauge. You should always knit your swatch the same way that the pattern is knit —in this case, in the round. Block your swatch as you will your finished garment and allow it to dry fully before measuring. **Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5, 6){7, 8, 9, 10}** Recommended ease: 10-14" *[25.5-35.5 cm]* of positive ease at the bust and 2” *[5 cm]* of positive ease at the upper arm. The gauge is intentionally loose to create a fabric that drapes nicely and flatters the body. As the sleeve has less ease than the body, it is important to choose a size that will comfortably fit around the upper arm.
