It is the time of year, welcome to my 2026 crochet along! This time we are making the Solstice cape.
The Solstice pattern will be available with a 50% discount during the crochet along. Use code: SOLSTICE
AND as an extra bonus, once you've added the Solstice CAL to your cart and put in the code, then you get half price on your total purchase (your whole cart!) at checkout!
I´ve been carrying this idea for a while now, to make a blanket inspired by our traditioanl Icelandic Lopapeysa – wool sweater. Once I started going I thought, why not a cape!? I feel like we should definetily wear more capes in genearl, feels like a lost oportunity not to. I say cape, guess you´d rather call it a ruana or a poncho, but I‘m sticking with cape! It´s way more dramatic and fun anyways. Superheroes wear capes! And so did both the Valkyries and Odin, hence the name for the two original colourways.
**The Solstice Crochet along**
I will publish the Solstice pattern in three parts for the crochet along. This here is the first part, the introduction file, where you will find all yarn stats, colours and sizes available for the Solstice cape.
On **November 1st**, I’ll add part number two, which will be the full pattern for the Solstice cape, including charts and written instructions for both sizes SMALL and LARGE.
I will be doing support videos over on YouTube all through November too and then there will be pattern support over in our Facebook group Tinna’s Crochet Club, where I’m hosting the CAL.

The crochet along will run for all of November and then at the end of the month, on the 29th I’ll publish the third and final part of the pattern. That is the Solstice blanket version where we will have even more charts to choose from plus written instructions for a medium sizes Solstice blanket.
All the charts are a 10 stitch repeat and they all go together, so as always you can make any size blanket as well. As an extra bonus, the blanket pattern comes with 3 different borders included!
Rest assured, this pattern works quite well for a blanket too and we will get to that later! For now, let’s make some Capes!
Following are the stithces we use in this pattern.
Abbreviations (US terms):
ST = stitch/stitches
SS = slip stitch
CH = chain stitch
SC = single crochet
DC = double crochet
We use both mosaic crochet technique in this pattern, plus the linen stitch.
**Colours, hooks and yarn**
You need at least 3 colours for this design and the Solstice pattern comes with two original colourways, Valkyrie the light one and Odin the dark one, there I use some extra colours for both the main colour and the pattern colours. Both are detailed here but then you can of course use any yarn and colours you like for your Solstice cape.
You will need DK yarn
I used Lettlopi in Icelandic wool, 50 grams balls equal 100 m.
Hooks 4 for the mosaic stitch and hook 5 mm for the linen stitch.
Please note that all yarn stats are generous and include the long fringe.
For a size Small
100 cm width x 130 cm length you will need:
15 balls of colour A – main colour
6 balls of colour B – pattern colour
5 balls of colour C – pattern colour
For a size medium
130 cm width x 130 cm length, you will need:
20 x 50 g of colour A – main colour
8 x 50g of colour B – pattern colour
7 x 50g balls of colour C – pattern colour
For a size Large
130 cm width x 160 cm length you will need:
24 x 50 g of colour A – main colour
10 x 50g of colour B – pattern colour
8 x 50g of colour C – pattern colour
All info on both original colourwyas and yarn stats for those are included in this intro file. As well as an extensive chapter on how to work the pattern with different weights of yarn and sizes.
Gauge
Gauge is 17 stitches and 17 rows for 10 by 10 cm, in both mosaic and linen stitches.
