Welcome to the Hecate MKAL!
The download now contains the introduction file with all the information needed to prepare for the first clue.
**Project :**
The design is a long cowl, started with a provisional cast-on, knitted in the round as a tube and then closed with a grafting at the end.
It features stranded colourwork motifs with two colours per round and floats to catch.
You will find [here the Ravelry bundle][1] with the previous mystery designs. The type of project will be the same.
The colourwork revolves around a celestial theme, with figurative motifs representing the sky, space and abstract geometric depictions of this aesthetic.
The overall look is a blend of small dots and lines, larger motifs of planets, clouds and other celestial bodies.
There are quite a lot of floats to catch and I highly recommend using the ladderback jacquard technique for this design. The charts will be with a dark background and a lighter contrast colour for the motifs.
There are three different clues.
Each are 125 rounds rounds over 130 stitches and represents about 15 hours of knitting at a medium pace for a knitter familiar with colourwork.
**Mystery Knit Along planning :**
Use the #hecatemkal on Instagram to share your yarn choices and project.
Clue Releases :
Updates with new Pdfs will be sent to your Ravelry libraries.
Each clue comes with its set of instructions and the corresponding Chart.
Clue 1 : October 23rd
Clue 2 : November 6th
Clue 3 : November 20th
Full design release : December 4th.
**Yarn :**
The sample used the black colour as the main background colour (MC) and the gold colour as the contrast colour (CC).
You will need at least two colours of fingering weight yarn in the following amounts :
MC : 600 meters – 660 yards
CC : 400 meters – 440 yards
The sample is knit with Knitting for Olive Merino in Licorice (MC) and Dark Ocher (CC).
Type of yarn :
Given the denser gauge, any light fingering to fingering weight yarn will fit the design.
For optimal colourwork results, I recommend a wool-based yarn. Non superwash, woolen spun yarns will be even easier to manage.
Colours :
Semi solids or plain colours will ensure the best result. Due to the fine lines and style of the patterns, a stronger contrast is preferable.
Since every clue is distinct from each other, you may switch colours for the 3 different clues.
If you want to match colours to each clue, think :
Clue 1 = space
Clue 2 = day sky
Clue 3 = night sky
**Needles :**
3 mm (US 2.5) circular needles with appropriate cable length to knit in the round (60 cm – 24" maximum) or magic loop
or size required to get gauge
**Gauge :**
28 sts x 30 rnds per 10 cm – 4" in stranded knitting after blocking
Note that a different gauge will affect size and yarn usage.
**Size :**
128 cm – 50 ½" circumference (adjustable)
23 cm – 9" width
**Notions :**
2 different stitch markers, tapestry needle and scissors
Scrap yarn for the provisional cast-on and to place sts on hold
Crochet hook the same size as your knitting needle for the provisional cast-on
A spare needle for grafting
Row counter recommended
**Techniques used :**
Provisional cast-on
Two colours stranded knitting in the round with floats to catch
Ladderback jacquard recommended
Grafting
Pattern includes charted instructions
Charts contrast show a dark background (MC) and light patterns (CC)
