Chocolate Baguette

This free crochet bread pattern makes a chubby little baguette with three chocolate toppings, two feet and a stitched-on smile. It is worked in the round from a magic ring in chenille yarn, in four separate pieces, and finishes at about 11 × 2.5 × 6.5 cm, roughly 4¼ inches long. The loaf itself needs nothing beyond single crochet, increases and decreases; the chocolate on top adds half doubles and doubles worked into a starting chain. Puffie is a chenille, so the finished loaf has a soft, slightly furry surface that reads a lot like a real crust — and it hides uneven stitches while it is at it. The three chocolate toppings and both feet together take only a corner of the second ball, so there is enough left to make a second loaf in reversed colors if you want a pair. Two hook sizes. The body is worked on a 2.5 mm hook and everything else on a 2.0 mm. That is not fussiness: the toppings and the feet are small pieces where a loose fabric would let the stuffing and the sewn edges show through, and dropping half a millimetre tightens them up.
