This vest was inspired by the cerulean blue sweater featured in both of the *Devil Wears Prada* movies. For those of you who have not watched, the pullover from the first movie is cut into a vest in the second, and she wore it much like I've got it styled here. Of all the fantastic outfits in the more recent movie, it was this one that I had to own - and because I'm a knitter, I made it happen!
My version features a few more finishing details, is knit in a heavier (and much nicer) yarn than the original, and it features a cable that the Casual Corner would never have used - but my more polished vest is exactly what I had in mind and I love it.
The overall cable pattern is long and elegant, with a slipped stitch or two hidden in there to make sure the texture shows up on your fabric. The cable motif transitions right out of the ribbed hem and is perfectly centered at the V-neck (on all sizes) for a crisp, tailored vibe. Side panels allow for easy modification, and the whole vest works beautifully as a wardrobe staple I'll be reaching for often this season.
The yarn I chose is Bread & Butter Pretzel from A Verb For Keeping Warm. Ballpoint was the perfect shade to match the color from the original, but it's the soft merino fiber that really makes this a special yarn. The strand is round and bouncy and it shows off a cable beautifully. Pretzel comes in an array of beautiful shades, but we chose our favorite four and [bundled up some kits][2] if you're interested!
As always, notes are in the pattern on how and where to modify things for a more personal fit. The cable motif is both charted and written out. The vest is worked from the bottom up in the round, and split into front and back pieces at armholes. These are shaped while working flat to shoulder and then seamed before neckline and armhole trim are picked up and worked in the round.

Estimates include about 10% extra, based on test knit feedback. A round worsted-weight yarn works best if substituting.
