Mick Sweater

The Mick Sweater is my first published garment pattern, named after my Grandma Mickey ("Mick"), who taught me to knit as a child. It's knit top-down, featuring a wide center cable panel framed by moss stitch. The pattern is graded across sizes such that the center cable motif remains unchanged, with shaping occurring in the surrounding sections. Designed as a unisex, oversized garment, it is intended to be worn with approximately 9" (23 cm) of positive ease for a relaxed fit. **Fun fact:** One of my lovely test knitters even won first place and Best in Show with her Mick Sweater at the Little World's Fair in Grahamsville, NY. **Construction** The back yoke is worked flat and shaped with increases to create the slope of the shoulders. Stitches are then picked up along the slanted edges of the back yoke to form the shoulders. The shoulder sections are joined and worked flat, with additional increases near the armhole for fit. Front and back panels are then joined at the underarm and worked in the round. The gauge for the moss stitch is 21 sts × 28 rows = 4 × 4" (10 × 10 cm). The gauge for the Celtic knot is 36 sts × 27 rows = 4 × 4" (10 × 10 cm) after blocking. There is a gauge chart for a small section of Celtic knot provided in the pattern. The listed needle size is 5.0 mm [US8], but I recommend swatching to determine the needle size that gives you the correct gauge.
