Florence's Summer Bonnet

Florence's Bonnet is worked flat in a simple textured stitch pattern created with knit and purl stitches. Once the bonnet body is complete, the work is joined in the round, and the crown is shaped with decreases in stockinette stitch. The bonnet is finished with an applied I-cord edging around the face opening and matching ties. The sizes given are approximate, so feel free to size up or down depending on the child. Please note that merino yarn may relax and grow slightly after blocking, so bear this in mind when choosing a size, though this has been considered in the pattern’s final measurements. The samples shown in this pattern were knitted in Drops Merino Extra Fine in the shade Off White size 0-3 months, and in Powder Pink size 1-2 years. Any DK weight yarn that achieves gauge may be substituted. Suitable alternatives include Sandnes Garn Double Sunday or Rowan Merino Soft DK. As fibres behave differently, it is always recommended to knit and block a swatch before beginning the pattern.
