Ribbed DNA Helix Scarf

A DNA helix pattern with biologically accurate dimensions! The DNA-patterned ribbed scarf is worked flat in stranded colorwork using worsted-weight yarn. The main pattern (PDF) is charted over a 54-stitch panel and framed by a 4-stitch ribbed border on each side, for a total cast-on of 62 stitches. The pattern is fully adjustable in terms of length: just repeat the 41-row chart until the scarf reaches your desired size! You can read the chart in either direction. The scarf uses three colors of yarn: two colors for the pattern and one for the background. In the chart, X and Y represent each of your two pattern colors, and Z alternates between the X and Y colors with each full repeat of the chart. Gauge is not critical for this pattern--just pay attention to how long you want your scarf. Also, take care to keep floats relaxed so the scarf does not pucker. I used three colors of worsted-weight yarn, US 6 / 4.0 mm knitting needles, a large sewing needle, and scissors. Exact yardage will vary depending on your desired scarf length, gauge, and yarn choice; for me, a 75" scarf took around 675 yards across all three colors.
