Farfalle Sock

Farfalle combines two of my favorite design elements; mosaic knitting and optical illusions. Farfalle may look complicated, but is actually a quick, fun knit, suitable for sock knitters of any skill level and experience. Unlike other color work techniques, only one color is used in each round of mosaic knitting. The design is created by slipping stitches of one color when knitting rounds of the other color. These slipped stitches cinch or ruche the stripes, making them appear curved, like the bow-tie pasta they are named for. Choose 2 fingering weight yarns with high contrast; one of which can be tonal or variegated, as long as there is no overlap of colors. When in doubt, take a picture of the yarns together in black & white mode - the clearer the distinction between the shades, the better the contrast.
