Primary Pikmin Trio

This pattern gives instructions to make Red, Yellow and Blue pikmin with toppers of leaf, bud and flower. The body pattern is the same for all three pikmin with different instructions for nose, ears and mouth of the different characters. Instructions are included to use magnets in the pikmin stem and toppers for interchangeable play (optional). If using fingering weight yarn and the suggested hook size, the finished pikmin without a topper is approximately 6.25 inches / 16 cm long. MATERIALS NEEDED: • 2.25 mm (US size B) crochet hook (if you tend to work loose, use a slightly smaller hook such as 2 mm) • Smaller 1.75mm (US size 4) crochet hook for eye whites and Red Pikmin nose • Alize cotton gold hobby sport weight yarn in red (56), yellow (110), blue (141), white (55), pink (98-only for the mouth of blue Pikmin or you can use other pink yarn or embroidery thread), dark yellow (216) for flower centers, green (485). One ball of each is enough for multiple Pikmin! • 2x 6mm black safety eyes per Pikmin • Row counter tool • Stitch marker - I use a safety pin since it is easily movable • Darning needle for seaming and hiding tails • Scissors or snips for trimming yarn • Filling Options: About 2/3 cups raw short grain sushi rice, small beans such as lentils, plastic or glass craft filler bead pellets 3-5 mm in size (such as Poly Pellets or weighted blanket beads such as Winona Premium Glass Bead Weighted Filler size 00 3-4 mm), small aquarium gravel, ceramic tumbling medium spheres 3-5mm, or, I suppose, good old regular fiber toy stuffing. Or a mix of fillers! Be creative! • A funnel might be helpful when filling • Optional for Interchangeable Toppers: 4x 4mm round neodymium magnets: 4 for each full set of Pikmin, leaf, bulb, and flower. These magnets are as long as they are wide for easy gluing into stems. You will also need a gel superglue that can stick to metal and yarn- I used Aileen Metal and Jewelry Glue. In addition, tweezers or small pliers will be helpful to glue on the magnets.
