Rainbow Caterpillar, Butterfly & Egg

Meet Roy, G and Biv! This is a written crochet pattern for the “Rainbow Caterpillar, Butterfly & Egg”. Instructions are included on how to make three amigurumi plushies: ‘Roy the Caterpillar’ (no-sew), his older sister ‘Biv the Butterfly’ (low-sew) and their sibling-to-be ‘G the Egg’ (no-sew). The pattern is available in both US and UK terms. The PDF file is 16 pages long with detailed instructions and lots of photos. In addition to Ravelry, this pattern is also available on my Etsy store to purchase. This pattern is suitable for crocheters that are already familiar with amigurumi and basic crochet stitches/techniques (e.g. in US terms: MR, sc, hdc, dc, tr, inc, dec, colour changing, crocheting pieces together, etc.). One speciality/advanced stitch is also used (bobble stitch) - a detailed tutorial with images explains how to complete this. Please note however that the bobble stitch is used on multiple occasions so you will need to be (or able to become) confident with it in order to complete the pattern as intended. All pieces are worked in continuous rounds, except the wings which are worked in rows. The only pieces that need to be sewn together are the wings to the butterfly’s body. Materials & Tools Required: • Yarn in colours white, red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. All in (roughly) the same yarn weight category as each other. • A crochet hook that matches your yarn weight. • Safety eyes x2 per insect (optional- you can embroider eyes if you prefer) • A small amount of black thread/yarn to embroider the insect mouths. • Toy stuffing • Scissors • Tapestry/finishing needle • Stitch marker (recommended) • Pins to help with assembly/sewing (recommended) Using a 3mm hook and DK weight yarn my finished caterpillar measured 15.5cm long, 3cm wide and 3cm tall (exc. antennae). My finished butterfly measured 13cm long, 18cm wide (the wingspan), and 3cm tall (exc. antennae). My finished egg measured 2cm diameter (at its widest) and 2.5cm tall.
