The **Around the Room** blanket knitting pattern features an easy-to-knit 18-row repeat that creates a reversible geometric texture using only knit and purl stitches. The predictable pattern makes this a relaxing project. Designed for worsted #4 weight yarn, the pattern can be easily adapted for #3 weight yarns.
This modern blanket design is a wonderful choice for baby blankets, throws, and afghans. The PDF knitting pattern includes instructions for six blanket sizes.

*The geometric stitch pattern featured in this design reminds me of meaningful moments shared **around the room** with family and friends. Some of life’s most memorable moments happen simply by being together in the same room… singing “Happy Birthday”, welcoming new babies, reminiscing about favorite memories, celebrating weddings, gathering for holiday meals, and watching a favorite movie on quiet Friday night.*
**DIRECTIONS FOR SIX BLANKET SIZES:**
Approximate sizes after blocking…
Baby: 26” wide x 30” long
Small: 30” wide x 35” long
Medium: 34.5” wide x 37” long
Large: 39.5" wide x 44.5” long
XL: 44” wide x 49.5” long
XXL: 49” wide x 54.5” long
Finished size may vary depending on yarn weight and gauge used.
Any of the sizes may be made longer by adding pattern repeats. Each pattern repeat adds about 2.25 - 2.5” to the length of the blanket. Pattern includes estimates for additional yardage needed to make each size longer.
**WORSTED #4 WEIGHT YARN:**
Baby: 750 - 780 yards
Small: 1000 - 1030 yards
Medium: 1250 - 1300 yards
Large: 1700 - 1750 yards
XL: 2100 - 2200 yards
XXL: 2600 - 2700 yards
Be sure to buy additional yarn if you plan to add length to your project.
I used **Berroco Pima 100** worsted #4 weight yarn in the ‘Wisteria’ colorway. I would describe this yarn as "light worsted". It has fantastic stitch definition and the results are lovely!
This pattern will work well with many worsted #4 weight yarns. The pattern may also be used with DK #3 weight yarns, as well as slightly heavier yarns.
Smooth, solid-color yarns with good stitch definition will showcase the texture best. Gently variegated hand-dyed yarns will also work nicely.
**GAUGE:**
Pattern stitch with US size 6 needles: approximately 20 stitches & 30 rows = 4”
Exact gauge is not essential. This stitch pattern looks best with fairly tight stitches.
I used US size 6 knitting needles. Choose the needle size that gives the best appearance with your yarn and your knitting tension.
A different gauge may require more or less yarn and impact the finished size of the project.
**NEEDLES:**
The blanket is knit flat, in one piece, back and forth on circular knitting needles in order to accommodate the large number of stitches.
**SKILL LEVEL:** Easy
You will need to know how to cast on stitches, knit and purl confidently, read a row by row knitting pattern, bind off stitches and weave in ends.
Blocking of finished knitting is highly recommended. [Please see my blog post for step-by-step tips and photos.][2]
This pattern uses standard U.S. knitting terms.
Written pattern with row by row instructions.
