This pattern was designed for the Supersock World Championship competition on Ravelry and will only be available on the dedicated website until the competition is done.
The pattern is written for a pair of socks knit from the cuff down using the magic loop technique, but it can be adjusted to using five double-pointed needles (DPN’s).
The pattern calls for approx. 320m of a Main Colour and 80m of a contrasting colour. The cuffs, heels and toes are worked in the Contrast Colour (CC), and these socks shine their best when using a self-striping yarn as the Main Colour, as the construction utilises simple decreases and increases to create a wavy pattern in the striping. Further interest is added to the design with beads; you can decide to use a highly contrasting bead colour (matching your CC perhaps?) or a more subtle match with your yarn. Beads are added using the crochet hook technique and a simple guide to this technique is included, making this a great pattern for knitters who are new to beading.
While self-striping yarn was the inspiration for the design, it will work well in a solid, tonal or gradient yarn. I don't recommend using a highly variegated yarn as the beading and waves are most likely to get lost.
The pattern is available in sizes small, medium and large, corresponding to a leg circumference of approximately 13cm (15cm, 17cm)/ 5” (6”, 6 ¾”) **unstretched** and a foot circumference of approximately 14cm (16cm, 18.5cm)/5 ½” (6”, 7 ¼”) **unstretched** when knit to the specified gauge.
