**20% off on check out with coupon code HIDING until end of Tuesday May 19th.** Hiding in My Shell sock pattern set includes **two** sock patterns inspired by creatures who travel slowly in shells. One inspired by the humble snail and the other by cheeky tortoises (or turtles! Whatever you prefer!). Both sock patterns have been tech edited and test knitted. **Snail Trail socks** This quirky sock pattern is for anyone who appreciates a joyful, eye-catching snail design. Perfect for sock knitters who enjoy something a little different, these snails wind their way across the socks in a way that’s as satisfying to knit as it is to show off. Knit from the top down, starting with a stripy racing style cuff and a short row heel (video for heel provided) and an overall. This pattern has rows that use three colours in one round. There is an optional simple colourwork pattern included which can be added to help create length to your sock. This pattern uses the magic loop circular needle method (but were also test knitted with 23cm (9 inch) circulars and DPNs). **Yarn used for both sock patterns** John Arbon Textiles Exmoor sock yarn. 4 ply fingering weight. 60% Exmoor Blueface Superwash, 20% Falklands Corriedale Superwash, 10% Zwartbles and 10% Nylon. 200m / 218 yds per 50g. Sizing 1 (2, 3) To fit (foot circumference): 19.5 – 21 (21.5 –23.5, 26-28) cm / 8 (9 ½, 10 ¾) inches. Finished circumference: 17.5 (21, 24.5) cm / 7 (8 ½, 9 ¾) inches. Recommended ease: Approximately 2.5cm (1 inch) of negative ease. Leg/foot length can be easily adjusted. See instructions for details. Sample shown is knit in size 2 for shoe size US 8.5 (EU 39, UK 6), foot circumference 22.5cm (8 ¾ inches). Any fingering weight sock yarn can be used for this sock pattern, as long as you can obtain the same gauge. MC: Mackerel-Sky (light blue). Approx 50 (60, 65) g, 200 (240, 260) m / 218 (262, 284) yds. CC1: Plashes (darker blue). Approx 30g, 120 m / 131 yds. CC2: Fairy Thimble (pink). Approx 80m / 87 yds. CC3: Mizzle (natural). Approx 5g, 20m / 22 yds. Needles For ribbing and stockinette: 2.25mm (US 1), 80cm (32 inch) circular for magic loop, or DPNs, or two circulars, or a 23cm (9 inch) circular needle. For colourwork: 2.5mm (US 1.5), 80cm (32 inch) circular for magic loop, or DPNs, or two circulars, or a 23cm (9 inch) circular. Important note: Do check your gauge for fitting. **Further sizes can be achieved by going up or down needle sizes.** Gauge 34 sts x 44 rnds = 10cm (4 inches) for ribbing and stockinette. 34 sts x 36 rnds = 10cm (4 inches) for colourwork. (This is the same stitch gauge even though we are using a bigger needle size because for myself and many other knitters, we often knit the colourwork sections tighter than stockinette. Please check your own gauge to see if this works for you). **Slow Down Tortoise socks** I have a tortoise from my childhood, named Tammy, who must be in his 60´s now, but continues to chase my dad around the garden on warm days. Funnily enough he loves peoples’ shoes, so I felt it appropriate to dedicate a pair of socks with tortoises on for Tammy. If turtles are more your thing, these socks can be knit with a blue, sea background, if preferred! These socks are knit from the cuff down. They have a stripy ribbed cuff, short row heel, and a simple to knit, tortoise motif running throughout the leg and foot. There is an optional simple colourwork pattern included which can be added to help create length to your sock. The socks are finished with stripy toes. The pattern uses the magic loop circular needle method (but was also test knitted with 9-inch circulars or dpns). Sizing 1 (2, 3) To fit (foot circumference): 19.5 – 21 (21.5 –23.5, 26-28) cm / 8 (9 ½, 10 ¾) inches. Finished circumference: 17.5 (21, 24.5) cm / 7 (8 ½, 9 ¾) inches. Recommended ease: Approximately 2.5cm (1 inch) of negative ease. For your foot circumference, measure around the widest part of your foot (normally the ball of your foot, just before the start of your toes). Further sizes can be achieved by going up or down a needle size. Leg/foot length can be easily adjusted. See instructions for details. Sample shown is knit in size 2 for shoe size US 8.5 (EU 39, UK 6), foot circumference 22.5cm (8 ¾ inches). Shown in: MC: Mizzle (Natural). Approx 50 (60, 65) g, 200 (240, 260) m / 218 (262, 284) yds. CC1: Fuzzpig (brown). Approx 30g, 120 m / 131 yds. CC2: Aggy (green). Approx 20g, 80m / 87 yds. Needles For ribbing and stockinette: 2.25mm (US 1), 80cm (32 inch) circular for magic loop, or DPNs, or two circulars, or a 23cm (9 inch) circular needle. For colourwork: 2.5mm (US 1.5), 80cm (32 inch) circular for magic loop, or DPNs, or two circulars, or a 23cm (9 inch) circular needle as preferred. Important note: Do check your gauge for fitting. Further sizes can be achieved by going up or down needle sizes. Gauge 34 sts x 44 rnds = 10cm (4 inches) for ribbing and stockinette. 34 sts x 36 rnds = 10cm (4 inches) for colourwork. (This is the same gauge even though we are using a bigger needle size, because for myself and many other knitters, we often knit the colourwork sections tighter than stockinette. Please check your own gauge to see if this works for you).
