Enterocyte, the gut cell

Enterocytes are the most abundant cell type in the gut. They form most of the lining of the gut and are very busy cells! They are the ones absorbing nutrients from digested food into our blood, using those little “hairs” (called microvilli) to increase their surface to improve nutrient absorption. But that is not all, as they form the barrier so the microbes in our guts stay there and don’t get into our blood. Surely cell biologists, gastroenterologists or even nutritionists will love this giant enterocyte! The PDF includes step-by-step written instructions, visual references and photo-tutorials to help you, and it is available in English and Spanish. **Sewing needed:** None (except for the eyes, but they can be substituted by safety eyes). **Level:** beginner-intermediate. You need to be familiar with the basic stitches used in amigurumi (chains, slip stitch, single crochet (US)/double crochet (UK), increases, invisible decreases, and work in the back loop and third loop). There are photo-tutorials to learn how to do invisible decreases and working in the back and third loops with both right- and left-handed versions, if you need them. **Yarn and hooks:** You can use any yarn weight you prefer; you only have to choose a suitable hook so you can crochet tight enough for the stuffing not to show.
