The Joyce Poncho is a top down poncho featuring an elegant cable design that sits within offset raglan increases evenly placed in the front, back and from neckband to wrist. The neckband itself is worked in 2x2 rib, and there are short rows worked in rib situated at the back of the garment to raise the back for comfort and fit, while also creating neat angled shaping at the back neck.
The body of the poncho is knitted in stocking stitch with right and left lifted increases and cable insert. The cable instructions are both written and charted. The poncho is completed with a 2x2 rib border to complement the neckband, and which again connects seamlessly with the cable insert and lifted increases.
The yarn used for the sample is Lammermuir Wool’s Achness Shetland Blend DK, which is beautiful blend of shetland and alpaca fibres. Any yarn that meets gauge can be used, but take care to consider that it may change your required meterage. I’ve given advice on yarn substitution in my Tips & Techniques section, which I recommend you read before casting on.
