The Emmaline Jacket feels like a step back in time. I wanted to create something that captures that quiet, nostalgic feeling of handmade garments being part of everyday life. Something timeless, that could have been worn 100 years ago, or 100 years from now. The Emmaline Jacket has a soft, cosy structure through the yoke and sleeves, with a flowing skirt and delicate lace edging that adds just the right amount of detail. It is finished with a hood and simple button fastening, using the natural spaces in the stitches rather than traditional buttonholes. It is a piece designed to be worn, loved, and passed on. PATTERN INFORMATION step-by-step written instructions colour-coded sizing throughout detailed stitch counts for every section clear construction guidance helpful video tutorials for key techniques photographs to support you along the way This pattern is suitable for confident beginners and beyond. SIZES INCLUDED 0–6 months 6–12 months 1–2 years 3–4 years 5–6 years 7–9 years 10–12 years The jacket is designed to be worn with positive ease. For the best fit, choose your size based on chest measurement rather than age. CONSTRUCTION The Emmaline Jacket is worked from the top down. You will begin with a raglan-style yoke, working back and forth in rows. The yoke is broken down into sections (front, sleeves, and back), with clear stitch counts to help you stay on track as you go. Once the yoke is complete, the sleeves are separated and the body is continued to create a gently flared skirt. The sleeves and hood are then added, followed by delicate lace edging around the cuffs, hem, and front opening. Buttons are sewn onto the finished jacket, using the natural spaces between stitches as buttonholes. MATERIALS Aran weight yarn I used Yarnsmiths Merino Aran in the colours Khaki and Linen (4206) 75m / 82 yards per 50g skein You may substitute with any aran weight yarn that meets gauge. When substituting, use metres or yards as your main guide rather than weight, as merino wool is often heavier than synthetic yarns. 5.0 mm (U.S. H/8) crochet hook (or size needed to obtain gauge) 6.0 mm (U.S. J/10) crochet hook (for the skirt) 2–4 buttons (approx. 2 cm / 0.75 in) Tapestry needle Stitch markers Yarn requirements vary by size. Please see listing images for full details. GAUGE 16 sts / 12 rows = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 in) in hdc and crossed hdc stitches SUPPORT If you need any help while making your jacket, I am always happy to help.
