Happy Sunshine Scrappy Vest

It’s time to give your odd balls and leftover scrap yarns a fresh new life as spring approaches. Made only with the scrap yarns in my stash, the Happy Sunshine Scrappy Vest is a cheerful project that adds warmth and color to your spring wardrobe. Each block is worked in a different textured stitch (you will never get bored while knitting!) connected with the intarsia technique. The best thing about this design is its adaptability: did you run out of a yarn partway through a section? Just switch to another color and texture combination--it’s all part of the charm. Not enough yarn to make the bottom trim, neck trim, and armhole trim in one color? You can make each part in a different color! Don’t have enough worsted weight yarns in your stash? You can hold two strands of fingering weight yarn to achieve the correct thickness. Even one strand of lace weight yarn plus one strand of sport weight or one strand of lace weight plus one strand of light DK weight may work too, as long as you can get the right tension. The combination possibilities are endless! I challenged myself to only use the yarns that I had in my stash to make this vest without purchasing any new yarn. As a result, some sections have a slightly lighter thickness, and I had to dye some colors myself. You can make this project into your stash-busting challenge, too! By adapting this pattern to the status of your stash, your vest will be one-of-a-kind and uniquely yours.
