*About the name: When I tried on the finished cardigan for the first time, I accidentally put it on upside down – and it fit! Then I turned it inside out – and it fit again. (Watch me trying on on [Instagram][1]) So this cardigan could be worn from all sides. You have to put your arms into the sleeves only. **So – WEAR IT AS YOU LIKE IT!***
**The pattern comes with the option for the short hip-length and the long thigh-length version.**
The cardigan is knitted entirely in garter stitch. Unlike usual, however, it is not worked from the top down, but from side to side You start in the centre of the back with the provisional cast on and work back and forth. The wedges are worked with German Short Rows. A few increases are worked to shape the shoulder and armhole. The armhole stitches are put on hold and then you knit to the centre of the wide collar with knitting the edgings of the shoulder together.
From there, you continue to work the other side. To create the armhole stitches, you have to wrap your yarn around two needles only. After shaping the shoulder-line you end at the back where you have to graft the live stitches of the beginning and of the end.
Finally, the sleeve stitches are picked up again and the sleeves are knitted from the top down.
**GAUGE**: 17 sts x 28 r per 10x10 cm / 4” x 4” in garter stitch with needle 5.5 mm/US 9
**NEEDLES:** Circular needle 7.5 mm/US 11 (at least 80 cm / 32”; adjust your needle size to get the correct gauge); additional circular needle 5.5 mm /US 9 or smaller for the cast on at the back (at least 80 cm / 32”)
***Note***:*The optimal needle size depends greatly on the yarn used. Many testers used a needle size of 5.5 mm, for example. So please check for the right needle size for your yarn to meet the gauge.*
**NOTIONS:** Stitch markers & Tapestry needle to weave in ends & some waste yarn to put stitches on hold
**YARN REQUIREMENTS**
Basically, this garment can be knit with any yarn with matching gauge (aran weight). The sample was knit with [CIELO](/yarns/library/holst-garn-cielo) by Holst Garn (125 m/137 yd per 50g; composition: 42% Alpaca, 42% Merino, 16% Polyamide).
In addition to [Cielo](yarns/library/holst-garn-cielo), so-called ‘blow yarns’ are a particularly good alternative if you want your jacket to be nice and light yet warm at the same time., e.g. [Snefnug](/yarns/library/camarose-snefnug) by CaMaRose or [DROPS Air](/yarns/library/garnstudio-drops-air) by Garnstudio.
