The Beanie Principle

Originally designed to use up quantities of my more luxurious yarn left overs, this beanie is worked top down to optimise fit and yarn usage. While instructions are given for specific widths and lengths, I highly encourage people to modify these instructions to better fit your head shape or yarn quantities. This pattern is graded for the *Adventurous Beginner* but includes tips and tricks to help when choosing yarn, adjusting size, holding multiple strands, and more. **Yarn** 160m(170m) each of 3 strands of Lace(2ply) yarn. I have used one stand each of Malabrigo Yarns Lace, Schoppel Wolle Edition 6 and Rowan Kidsilk Haze held triple throughout. **OR** 160m(170m) each of a Lace(2ply) and a Fingering(4ply) yarn. I have used one strand each of Cardiff Brushlight and Isager Spinni held double throughout. **Gauge** 24 stitches and 35 rows to 10cm worked in the round and after blocking. Note that this gauge is just a guide. If you are out by a stitch or three but like the fabric don’t worry about it. Just know that your beanie might have a slightly tighter or looser fit. **Size** Small (Large) - recommended to fit with 2-10cm negative ease Finished Circumference. 45cm (50cm) Length from Cast on. (unfolded) 24cm (27cm) **Needles** 3.75mm (US 5/UK 9) needles in 15cm double pointed needles AND 40cm circular needles. **OR** 3.75mm (US 5/UK 9) needles in 80cm circular needles to work in magic loop. *Optional* - 3.25mm circular needles for brim. **Notions** 6 ring markers. \- 1 unique to mark the start of the round, - 5 others to mark the increase points.
