Welcome to Kluane National Park! This mystery sock for the March/April SKA KAL is inspired by an ambitious hike through the beautiful scenery of this rugged national park in the glacial mountains of Yukon Territory in northern Canada. Each clue represents one part of the trek, from the park gate to the final destination. You can find out more about Kluane National Park and Reserve, home to Canada's highest mountain and the backcountry hiking trail that is the inspiration for this MKAL, [here][1]. **Clue Release Schedule** Clue 0: Prepare Your Gear - February 18th Clue 1 - March 1st Clue 2 - March 8th Clue 3 - March 15th Clue 4 - March 22nd **Pattern Description** This toe-up sock has a classic gusset-and-heel-flap construction. It is primarily worked in one colour, with a small amount of one contrasting colour required. Both socks are worked identically. The pattern is written to be method-neutral; the instructions are compatible with whichever sock knitting technique (double-pointed needles, magic loop, two circular needles, etc.) that you prefer to use. Two-at-a-time knitting is possible, but it may be necessary to temporarily split the socks and rearrange their orientation and/or work them separately in some sections. The following techniques are used in the pattern (in no particular order): * Basic knitting stitches, including both right- and left-leaning increases and decreases (such as M1L/M1R, ssk/K2tog, etc.), knit/purl, slipped stitches, etc. * Toe-up sock techniques, such as Judy's Magic Cast On and a stretchy bind off * German short rows * Elongated stitches * Cables Necessary techniques are fully explained in each clue and many links to video tutorials are provided to offer additional assistance. The pattern is approximately an [Intermediate][2] level of difficulty on my sock pattern difficulty scale (this is a 3 out of 5, where 1 is an absolute-beginner vanilla pattern and 5 is ridiculous enough for Sock Madness). **Yarn Requirements and Sizing** Sizes available: Adult Small (Medium, Large) to fit foot circumferences of 18 (20.5, 23) cm / 7 (8, 9) inches. The relevant clues include foot and leg length adjustment guidelines to get the best possible finished fit. Recommended yarn: Fingering or light fingering weight yarn appropriate for socks; approximately 300 (325, 350) m / 325 (350, 375) yards are required for the Main Colour and up to 20 m / 25 yards of the Contrast Colour. You may find that a colourway that is busy, especially one that produces stripes or patterns, is not ideal as the Main Colour for this pattern. I recommend choosing a less, shall we say, “opinionated” colourway — such as a subtle speckle, semisolid, or solid — in order to show off your work as much as possible. You will also need a small amount of a Contrast Colour that should stand out against your Main Colour; this can be pretty much anything you want — it will look good in a solid, but it’s also fun in a variegated that pools. Great for leftover yarn or a random miniskein! Additional notions: cable needle, 6 stitch markers, finishing tools (tapestry needle, blocking materials, etc.).
