*Alula is a study in balance and symmetry. Worked sideways toward the center, the construction mirrors itself.
The front and back are worked in one continuous piece, joined seamlessly through a two-sided provisional cast-on. This clever technique eliminates side seams entirely and creates a garment that flows naturally around the body.
Alula is wonderfully versatile. Choose plant-based yarns or blends for a light, summery feel, or opt for wool and wool blends when you’re craving warmth and coziness.
Thoughtful construction, tactile texture, and quiet elegance come together in Alula: a sweater that feels as good to make as it does to wear.*

**CONSTRUCTION**
Alula features a seamless construction with thoughtfully placed details. You begin with a provisional cast-on at the upper arm, then work the body sideways. A double-sided provisional cast-on is used to create an invisible side seam. The front and back are worked together as one piece until the neckline, where they are separated. Short rows then shape the neckline while the knitting continues toward the center.
Once both the right and left halves are complete, they are joined using a modified three-needle bind-off, creating a flat center seam at both the front and back.
The sleeves are worked top-down in the round, allowing you to try on as you go and adjust the length as needed. Stitches are then picked up for the ribbing and neckline, which are both worked in the round to the bind-off.
Video tutorials are included for the double-sided provisional cast-on and the modified three-needle bind-off, along with detailed guidance for customizing the body length.
**SIZES**
Sizes 1 (2, 3, 4) {5, 6, 7, 8}
The sweater is intended to sit at the upper hip with 0–5 cm / 0–2" of ease. Because of the silhouette and the sideways construction, there is generous ease through the bust regardless of size. Select your size based on your upper hip measurement rather than your bust.
If you prefer a longer fit, choose the size with an upper hip measurement closer to your full hip circumference.
Finished upper hip circumference: 76 (88.5, 94.5, 101) {113.5, 126.5, 145.5, 158} cm / 30 (34.75, 37.25, 39.75) {44.75, 49.75, 57.25, 62.25}”
Sample is shown in size 2, with 5 cm / 2“ease at the upper hip.
**YARN**
This design works well with a wide range of DK-weight yarns. For a warm-weather version, choose a plant-based fiber such as cotton or linen (blend). For a cozier, more insulating sweater, a wool or wool-blend yarn is ideal.
Approx 1015 (1050, 1100, 1175) {1275, 1375, 1500, 1650} m / 1110 (1150, 1200, 1285) {1395, 1500, 1640, 1800} yards.
Sample shown in Hjelholt Dansk Pelsuld 5.5/2, 100% wool, 275 m / 300 yards per 100 gr, colorway 03.
**NEEDLES**
**Needle A** (for the body and the sleeves)
One 100 cm / 40”, and one 60 cm / 24” circular needle, and a set of needles for working a small circumference in the round in size needed to obtain the gauge listed.
Suggested needle size: 3.5 mm / US #4.
**Needle B** (for the ribbing)
One 80 cm / 32” circular needle, and a set of needles for working a small circumference in the round
Suggested needle size: 3 mm / US #2.5.
A spare needle the size of Needle A.
**GAUGE**
Measured after blocking.
To check your gauge for the textured pattern that runs throughout the sweater, a Gauge Swatch Chart is included in the pattern; 18 sts x 33 rows of the Chart on Needle A = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4”.
**NOTE**
Large parts of the textured pattern running throughout body and sleeves are **CHARTED ONLY**.
