Morse Code Protest Headband

This is the Morse Code Protest Ear Warmer. The knit/purl texture of this pattern spells FUCK ICE in Morse Code. This pattern is available for free but with a suggested donation to any of the following causes to support the resistance against the cruel and inhumane treatment of civilians by ICE, support for legal funds of detained individuals, and/or general civil liberties protections. No, of course not. BUT, fiber arts have a deep and rich history in resistance spaces. I chose to use morse code for this pattern because it is well documented that women often used knitting patterns during WWII with morse code motifs to send messages in resistance of the Nazi regime. This pattern is not designed to be a single act of resistance – it is designed to be a fundraising opportunity, a way to channel the collective rage and heartbreak of the current environment into something beautiful and still relevant, and as a way to educate people on the history of fiber arts being used in generations of resistance against fascism. Knit the headband, but please do not let it be the only thing you do. It is our responsibility as a collective to take as much action as we can against the injustices we are seeing in our communities. Write and call your representatives, donate money, show up where and when you can. Thank you!
