Barrel Rider Socks

Given my fondness for wild and crazy sock yarn colorways, I’m always looking for textured patterns that won’t fight with the yarn. Bonus points for ribbing that makes for a forgiving fit. Extra bonus points for an easy-to-follow stitch pattern! Barrel Rider Socks aren’t quite a broken rib, nor are they a mistake rib; I’m calling it a shifting rib. The odd knit stitch shifts back and forth, creating a subtle, wave-like texture, like barrels bobbing back and forth as they float down a tree-lined river. The listed gauge is just a guideline; I tend to adjust my needle size and/or what stitch count I’m knitting to get a fabric I like with the yarn I’m using. Basic knowledge of sock construction is helpful; this pattern is written using the Magic Loop method, but is easily adapted to two circulars or using DPNs.
