**Gairloch Blanket**
*In this playful experiment with scale and proportion, the famous Gairloch stocking pattern appears at blanket size*
**Yarn**
Kate Davies Designs Schiehallion (100% British wool; 110m / 120yds per 50g skein)
A Alto: 18 x 50g skeins
B Crowdie: 12 x 50g skeins
Note: yarn is held double throughout. Wind skeins together before knitting, if preferred.
**Needles and Notions**
Gauge-size circular needles of appropriate length(s) (100cm-
150cm)
Below gauge-size circular needles of appropriate length(s)
(for working edging)
Stitch markers
Tapestry needle
Sewing needle and thread (to match)
**Gauge**
12 sts and 16 rounds to 10cm / 4in over stranded colourwork in the round
Use 7mm needle as a starting point for swatching.
I recommend going down two needle sizes for the garter-stitch edging (so if you achieve gauge on a 7mm needle for the colourwork, use a 6mm needle for the edging, returning to a 7mm needle for the i-cord bind off).
**Size**
When blocked, approximately 125 x 163cm / 49 x 64in
**Pattern Notes**
This blanket is worked in the round, all in one piece, following a colourwork chart with a central steek. When the blanket reaches the required length, the steek is cut and trimmed back, and the blanket centre blocked to its finished dimensions. After blocking, stitches are picked up all around the outside of the blanket, and a narrow edging is worked, finished with i-cord. Finally, the steek edges are secured at the back of the work, and may be covered with optional ribbon (if desired) for a neat finish.
