This hat was born like many of my projects; to make my partner smile. Luckily for me, it has brought her and I smiles as it is one of her favorite accessories. It is my hope that brings you the same joy that it has brought us. The original creation required a pony tail hole, as do all of her hats, but you can make it either way!
Sizing & Gauge Notes
This hat is very gauge dependent. Tapestry crochet is not stretchy and makes gauge vital. I highly recommend making the head band before making the hat to ensure you are at gauge. Generally, if you are not meeting gauge, the width/diameter will be okay, but the height will be too tall and reducing a hook size or tighter stitches will be the fix. The other fix is to make one repeat of the cat pattern and continue on in a solid color. If you make the head band and it is not close to 23โ in diameter and 4.5โ tall, try it again with a smaller hook.
At gauge, the pattern is written for a 23โ head circumference. Going up or down in hook size was not a good method for me to change sizing. To change diameter you will need to add or remove stitches from color A, or between the cats. At gauge, 1โ is equivalent to 4.75 stitches and there are 5 cats or repeats in the pattern. Therefore, to add or remove 1โ of the hatโs diameter you will need to add or remove 1 stitch between each cat. The best place to reduce stitches is in rounds 10 and 11. Stitches can be added in rounds 12 and 13.
To adjust for length add stitches to the bottom until desired length.
