Garter Stitch Link Kerchief

Link Kerchief is a simple bias-knit triangle, and this version is worked in garter stitch so it’s even easier to work up than the first one—real comfort-knitting. It features good finishing details to round out the main body’s simplicity, so its a quicker project with a nice balance in that respect. This .PDF makes one size, and starts with a provisional cast-on and work in the round. After that, it’s mostly flat until the finishing section. You can pretty easily customize it if you want a larger shawl, and I’d be intrigued to see the link fastener used in that context. This one’s knit with DK yarn too! I was originally planning this to be a sockweight cowl, but I really wanted to use this color. The Pattern is written for one color—the contrasting i-cord in the sample is more a result of working with scraps for the project—but you can easily replicate that look if you like by changing colors when you work i-cord. This .PDF is a little photo-heavy to make sure the links are easy to work. **Materials:** * 32g/110yds of soft dk-weight wool (main sample shown in Malabrigo Yarn Arroyo in Azul Prufundo and Pocion colorways, but I’d recommend a single color unless you really like the i-cord to contrast) * 1 pair of straight needles or 1 16" circular needle in US5/3.75mm, or size needed for gauge * 3 DPNs in size needed for gauge * scrap yarn for provisional cast-on * crochet hook for provisional cast-on * tapestry needle for weaving in ends **Gauge:** Gauge is 21 sts and 48 rows over 4"/10cm of garter stitch, worked flat and blocked lightly. **Measurements:** This kerchief measures 9.75"/24cm flat across the top (circumference is about 19.5"/50cm) by 9.5"/24cm deep. It’s designed to fit most adult weareres as a neckerchief or headwrap, with some negative ease in the second case.
