The Cressid Socks are knitted with fingering weight yarn on 2.25mm needles (US 1). This pattern is written as a toe-up sock with a split gusset, an Eye of Partridge heel flap, lace paneling, and a 1x1 rib with a tubular bind-off. Shakespeare's Cressida in *Troilus and Cressida* inspired the feminine lace panels in the Cressid Socks. Delicate lace winds up the leg like shifting loyalties and promises, while the clean, modern lines of the toe-up construction echo Cressida’s quiet strength and complicated heart. SIZES (APPROX) • Small 7.25”/18.5 cm • Medium 8.25”/21 cm • Large 9.25”/23.5 cm YARN • 100g fingering weight sock yarn. Any yarn that gives gauge (or your preferred gauge) should be suitable. • The sample uses Berroco Vintage Sock yarn in the color Stone. If you knit a longer leg or a looser gauge, increase the amount of yarn. GAUGE • 32 sts x 44 rows per 4” (10 cm) square, measured over stockinette stitch in the round. NEEDLES AND NOTIONS • 2.25mm (US 1), or whatever size is necessary to achieve gauge, 32”/80cm • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends This pattern has been edited by Lori Murphy and test-knit by volunteers.
